Final Image All Edits

In this tutorial learn how to make subtle enhancements to a seascape image using Topaz Clarity, DeNoise and Photoshop.

  • Image Location: Just out side of the George H Bush compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
  • Equipment: Nikon D800 28 mm lens @ ISO 100 6 sec exposure with a 10 Stop ND Filter

Step 1

  • Load the image into Photoshop
  • Create a duplicate layer (Ctrl/Cmd + J) and rename to Clarity

Step 2

  • Activate Topaz Clarity
  • Press ‘Reset All’

  • Make adjustments to ‘Dynamics’ and ‘Tone’ as shown:

  • Make adjustments to ‘Luminosity’ and ‘Saturation’ as shown:

  • Press the ‘Ok’ button to bring the image back into Photoshop

Step 6

  • Create a new adjustment layer and rename to DeNoise
  • Activate Denoise 5
  • Adjust for noise as needed

  • Flatten image and save

Step 8 (if needed)

  • Create a new adjustment layer
  • Rename layer to Luminosity
  • Switch to the Channels Tab
  • Ctrl/Cmd + click the RGB layer to get ‘marching ants’
  • Create a Curves layer and adjust the highlights as needed
  • Make sure that the blending mode is set to Luminosity

  • Repeat the Ctrl/Cmd + click on the RGB Luminosity Layer to get marching ants
  • Create a Curve Layer
  • Select the new curve layer and press Ctrl/Cmd + I to invert the selection
  • Adjust the curve layer as needed–make sure the blend mode is Luminosity

  • Flatten the layer and save
