Perfect travel pictures are hard to get without a lot of things: ample amounts of shooting time, the correct equipment, all the professional knowhow, and more. But you can get perfect travel pictures with a little post processing and the right software!

Last March, I went to Iceland and had the trip of a lifetime! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and there was so much to see and do. It really was a photographer’s paradise! I had a lot of photography opportunities on a day trip through the Golden Circle. We were on a pretty tight schedule to see all the stops and the sky was a gloomy, overcast grey. But that didn’t stop me from shooting away!

One of my favorite stops was Gullfoss Waterfall. I have seen waterfalls before, but never anything this big, this blue, this powerful! I made sure to get some pictures of the entire scene from up high and from down low as well as some close ups of details. I’ve lived in Texas my entire life and I had never seen a waterfall made from glacial water covered in ice and snow. It was truly awesome!

When I returned home and started to go through images, I noticed my pictures were pretty bland. I’d shot in RAW on my Nikon D300s and I had done a great job of not blowing out the whites of the snow, which was a challenge for me since I had never really photographed snow before! But I also noticed the details of the ice were muddled and the color of the water was lackluster.

Perfect Travel Pictures with Adjust 6 - Unedited

What a bummer…

I decided to edit my images to add saturation, more contrast, and refine details and edges. What better way to accomplish that than with Topaz Adjust? Check out how I fixed up my images from Iceland with the use of Photoshop CC and Adjust in this easy to follow tutorial, complete with an in-depth look at the program features and tools!

You can always follow along with me as I show you my workflow, try out the program as I teach about what the sliders do, or work on your own image with tricks I am doing. If you don’t have Adjust, you can always download a free 30 day trial here!

NOTE: The presentation talks more about processes than our traditional workflow webinars, join Harold Davis as he explains the why behind the how of his editing workflow.

Master photographer Harold Davis is well known for his books, prints, and extraordinary images of a wide variety of subject matter. “I’ve been called a digital artist who uses photographs as my source material,” he says, “and I believe this is a good way to consider my work.” Harold Davis likes to take his imagery slightly beyond conventional photography using digital painting, but not so far beyond photography that he would “lose the suspension of disbelief inherent in the photographic capture.”

In creating this syncretic mixture of photography and digital art, Harold Davis says that among his favorite “go-to tools are the brilliant Topaz Labs Photoshop plugins.”

In this webinar, Harold will explain how he uses Topaz Adjust, Topaz Simplify, Topaz Glow 2, and Topaz Impressions 2, and provide concrete examples. He’ll discuss two of his ideas about using special effects in Photoshop: If you’ve ever wanted to know how the Hegelian triad and homeopathy relate to the use of the Topaz plugins in Photoshop, this may be the webinar for you. Finally, he’ll explain how he uses a touch of Topaz in his workflow to create his unique photographic art.

There will be time for Q&A following the webinar.

About Harold Davis: Harold Davis is the author of eighteen bestselling photography books, most recently Achieving Your Potential As a Photographer: A Photographer’s Creative Companion and Workbook, published by Focal Press. His new book, The Photographer’s Black & White Handbook: Making and Processing Stunning Digital Black and White Photos, is slated for early 2017 publication by Monacelli Press. A Zeiss Lens Ambassador and Moab Master, Harold’s work has been published in books, advertisements, cards, posters, and in art editions. His prints are widely collected. As a workshop leader he is constantly in demand.  Harold is on the faculty at institutions including the Heidelberg Summer School of Photography, Maine Media Workshops, and Point Reyes Field Seminars.

Do you have a night sky photo that just isn’t as amazing as it appeared through your viewfinder? This tutorial can help add an artistic flare to your photos. Topaz Glow 2 allows you to turn your photographs into masterpieces with the use of varying glow effects. Glow 2 allows you to create images that really pop!

Today, we’ll cover how Glow 2 can be used to enhance starry night photos. This tutorial will show how varying glow effects can exaggerate those beautiful night sky photos. During this tutorial, the starry night effect will be applied selectively throughout the photo. All this means is some of the image will have the effect applied while other parts, such as mountains or water will be the original. Since we will be masking parts of the image, it is important that you use Glow 2 through a hosting application like Photoshop so that we can properly use the masking functions. If you aren’t familiar with using Glow 2 as a plugin, don’t worry. I will explain all of this in depth in latter steps.

Learn how to accomplish the following in this tutorial:

  • Getting started with Glow 2
  • How to create an effect from start to finish in Glow 2
  • Use ReMask to enhance details such as mountains and water

In this tutorial, I’ll be using an image of a starry snow covered mountain, which you can download here. Glow 2 will help turn this already amazing photograph into a work of art with the perfect focal point or extra flare!
